Wild Words: PELICAN (Wild Words Series Part 3)

The Wild Words’ PELICAN went to Stephanie Blake, a fellow Mail Artist from Alabama. Over at IUOMA she had commented on the GORILLA I’d sent to arttower here in Germany, saying how much she loved it. So, knowing that she would like it I grabbed the PELICAN and mailed it to her 🙂 I think especially it’s envelope turned out fantastic!

Have a great Wednesday ;P

Liberate Your Art 2012: Wonderful Photography by Pam Bowers

I received my fourth card from the “Liberate Your Art” postcard swap today. It’s this amazing photo of the San Diego harbor taken by Pam Bowers. She’s an incredibly talented photographer with a great eye! Just visit her blog “Kassies Beach” and see for yourself.

Can’t wait to see the last two cards from the swap. I’ll keep you posted:)

Wild Words: FLAMINGO (Wild Words Series Part 2)

Hi everyone! Happy Monday 😉

This  is the second piece out of my new mail art series “Wild Words”. I sent the FLAMINGO to Rachel Freeman-Irvin from Kansas. She is a wonderful collage artist and I’m the lucky recipient of two of her wonderful flower collages (don’t worry, I’ll show them two you in another post) Pop over to her blog Rachel Freeman Collage Art and take a peek at her work. It’s so pretty.

Well, this is the FLAMINGO I sent to her:

On my way home from work I had put together a much longer post for the FLAMINGO but now I think I should simply let the art speak for itself. I’ve always complained in school when we disected those wonderful works of art into microscopic pieces and pinned a meaning to each little fragment. I often doubt that artists have ever put as much of a message into their works as people try to interpret into them all the time. Sometimes there might be a larger and more complex message and sometimes – or most of the times – art is simply art and should not be burdened with so many words but simply be experienced. Art should make YOU think but you should not tell the artist what to think! I hope my little rant makes any sense to you. It’s just my opinion. What’s yours?

A baby kangaroo in my mailbox :)

Just as much as I love the regular postcard exchange on postcrossing I also enjoy the occasional “direct swap”. If it weren’t for this wonderful option I would have never received this cute little baby kangaroo from Penny.

Penny and her family live in Australia and try to collect a postcard from every country in the world. Additionally they are also collecting postcards from every district, province and independent city. So in return for the cute kangaroo baby card, I sent them a postcard featuring different views of places and buildings in my hometown.

I hope this little card helped them get one step closer to the completion of their collection. It definitely is a huge task!

Between Ape and Man (“Wild Words” Series Part 1)

It’s the weekend again, yay. This is a piece of mail art I received from arttower, a fellow German mailartist 🙂 On the front it reads “und seine Erben” (“and his heirs”) and on the back “Experiment des Monats” (“experiment of the month”). The whole thing makes me think of the evolution of man, Darvinism and genetics. And you?

Well, thinking of monkeys, especially apes and us – humanity – as their heirs, I decided to sent this piece of mail art to arttower in return. It’s out of my new mail art series “Wild Words”: The GORILLA. Yes, I’m still into the typographic images lately ;P

I wish you a great weekend!

Liberate Your Art 2012: Number 3 – Let’s tangle with Cris!

“You can do anything one stroke at a time.”

Hello everyone!

Today I found my third postcard from Kat Sloma’s postcard swap in my mailbox. It’s from Cris in Ohio, a zentangle/zendala artist. You don’t know what a zentangle is? I didn’t either until I visited Cris’amazing blog Tangeld Up In Art. To quote her:

“Zentangle is an easy-to-learn, fun relaxation artform using repetitive patterns. It helps increase focus, attentiveness, and creativity. It’s also fun. You don’t have to be an artist. No drawing experience is necessary. Really!”

Cris is a certified Zentangle teacher and if I could I’d love to attend one of her classes but as it is I have to make do with some books on it from the library or amazon. It sounds like a lot of fun and I can’t to learn more about it and try to tangle a bit myself 🙂 Maybe Cris can give me some online advice…

Thank you Cris for sending me such a lovely postcard and showing me a form of art I hadn’t heard anything about before.

Stickers and flower fairies :)

“As-tu vu la feé des fleurs?

– Regarde au creux de ton coeur! :)”

“Do you see the flower-fairy?

– Look in the depths of your heart! :)”

Sticker mail art from Julie aka “Pucelilina” in Belgium.

P.S. Please correct me if I made any mistake in my translation. My french is unfortunately a little rusty…
